Un-slumping Yourself is Not Easily Done (or is it?)

All of you out there who have trained with me are going to get a real chuckle out of this article.  Dare I say it?  Ok, here we go, “Dr. Seuss is a genius!”  There I said it.  No taking it back now, so I guess I had better support it instead.

In his book, Oh, the Places You’ll Go! Dr. Seuss tells us the wonderful story of a child, going out on his own for the first time.  He starts with, “Congratulations!  Today is your day.  You’re off to Great Places!…You have brains in your head.  You have feet in your shoes.  You can steer yourself any direction you choose…”

Does this sound like anyone you know?  Of course, it does—it is YOU!  The point is that YOU are the one in control in story we like to call LIFE.  Things are going to happen to you along the way, both good things and bad things.  Markets are going to go up and down. You will get “good” communities and “not-so-good” communities. Life does imitate art.  The silver lining here is that although you can’t control all the things going on around you, you can control how you react to it.  You have choices, and you are just “brainy and footsy” enough to make those choices wisely!

So, when you find yourself at a “…place where the streets are not marked.  Some windows are lighted. But mostly they’re darked.  A place you could sprain both your elbow and chin!…How much can you lose?  How much can you win?…” then DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!  DON’T JUST SIT THERE “…in a useless place.  The Waiting Place…Everyone is just waiting…for a pot to boil, or a Better Break or a string of pearls, or a pair of pants, or a wig with curls, or Another Chance…”

Of course, you know you should be doing something, but what should you do?  Put your time to good use.  Learn something.  Invest in yourself.  Join a professional organization and network with other successful people.  Build your data base from your sphere of influence and contact all of those people to ask them who they know that is ready to buy, sell, or invest in real estate.  READ, take a class; find a coach/mentor!  Most importantly—don’t forget to ACT on those wonderful ideas that this new found knowledge and energy are bound to bestow.  Activity creates more activity.  Don’t let those old habits or fear get in the way of your success.  As Tony Robbins says, “When your knowledge comes up against your habits, your habits always win.”  DON’T LET THAT HAPPEN!   Sitting idle in your sales center (read Waiting Place), away from the world, how can you possibly be on the top of your game?  FOCUS + INTENSITY = RESULTS.

Of course it s a little scary to go out there and to make things happen, but I know that you won’t be deterred.  “…On you will go though the weather be foul.  On you will go though your enemies prowl…Onward up many a frightening creek though your arms may get sore and your sneaker may leak…I know you’ll hike far and face up to your problems whatever they are…And will you succeed?  Yes! You will, indeed!  (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed.)  KID, YOU’LL MOVE MOUNTAINS!  So be your name Buxbam or Bixby or Bray or Mordecia Ali Van Allen O’Shea, you’re off to Great Places!  Today is your day!  Your mountain is waiting.  So…get on your way!”
